According to ONE champions (ONE.org), over 130 million girls are out of school. If this were the population of a country, it would be the 10th largest nation of the world. Just like the songs in the book of Psalms in the Holy Bible, PSALMS is targeted towards the children, the youths and the elderly.
Surprising isn’t it? Sadly this is the reality we live with. This year, 14 million girls under the age of 18 will be married (UNFPA); this translates to 38 thousand girls daily and 13 girls per second (UNFPA).
Imagine what would happen if the girl-child could live out her full potential and become an asset not just to herself but to her immediate family and the nation at large.
The Girl-child ought to be given an equal opportunity to live life to the fullest and become the best version of themselves. From educational to financial and entrepreneurial opportunities.
UCDiaries pays ears to the cries, pains and struggles of the girl-child, that is why our culture is equality and our purpose is strategic help targeted towards every female child. Every year, we strategically embark on outreaches, campaigns and programs to train, empower and create awareness for the girl-child.
The gender wars and traces of inequality seen in our society today makes it difficult for us to stand as one voice to create a gender balance. The girl-child is as important as the boy-child; she has great potentials, she deserves an all-round education, conducive work environment, the right to be protected from sexual, verbal and physical abuse and the right to her choice of a marriage partner at her own time.
If every girl completed her primary education in sub-Saharan Africa, maternal mortality could fall by a dramatic 70% (ONE.org); implying less maternal and infant mortality rates and a more healthy population. If India enrolled 1% more girls in secondary schools, it’s GDP would rise by $5.5 billion (CIA World Fact-Book); implying less poverty, better living standard and more healthy economies.
Here is the shocker; if you and I decide today to help one girl every day in our locales, then we would have been able to help every girl in the world twice in 365 days.
This gender balance we crave for begins with YOU and ME.
UCDiaries stands for an gender-balanced society where every child irrespective of gender is supported to live the fullest of their potentials without any limitations or stereotypes.
We have chosen to be the platform where our girls can become all that they want to be without fear or favour, free from abuse, intimidation, childhood marriages, and deprivation of quality education opportunities.
We implore you to take this stand with us. Together we will rewrite the story of the Girl-child.
